Call for Stream Proposals and (Pre-Conference) Workshops

The EDI Conference welcomes a wide range of streams about the complex relationship between equality, diversity and inclusion from different theoretical, empirical and methodological angles as well as across various trans/inter/national and disciplinary contexts. We want to draw particular attention to the concept of inclusion which often serves as an implicit anchor of equality and diversity policies but is rarely explicitly addressed in the context of its specific meaning, measurability and corresponding practices. Furthermore, a focus on inclusion provides the opportunity to look simultaneously at centers and peripheries. In order to analyze mechanisms of inclusion (and exclusion), patterns of privilege as well as practices of discrimination need to come to the foreground. Against this backdrop, we appreciate stream proposals that engage with all types of research questions and strands concerning inclusion/exclusion, equality and diversity at the workplace. Moreover, we are also interested in contributions which combine these topics with the general quality of life for which an inclusive working environment plays a major role. However, the relational and dynamic understanding of inclusion presented here is not intended to pose limits for stream themes and approaches.

Streams are designed in a traditional academic format whereas workshops are more open to unconventional and informal procedures. The 2014 edition also welcomes pre-conference workshops to be held on June 7, 2014.

Publication partnerships of EDI 2014 Munich conference

Associated to this conference are: The British Journal of Management; Cross-Cultural Management: an International Journal; Equality, Diversity, Inclusion: an International Journal, and the European Journal of Industrial Relations. Pre-selected best papers of the conference will be submitted to these journals, which will process them according to their usual standards.

We also advise stream organizers that the book series Equality, Diversity and Inclusion at Work (Book series by Emerald) edited by Professor Mustafa Özbilgin is associated to the conference. Relevant stream proposals will be eligible for this book series subject to acceptance by Professor Özbilgin, who will attend the conference.

Deadlines of stream proposals and (pre-conference) workshops

Stream proposals and (pre-conference) workshop proposals should be sent to laura.dobusch@tum.de no later than October 6, 2013.

Decisions regarding streams/workshops and launch of call for papers: October 10, 2013; the call for papers will be circulated thereafter.

Indicative framework for the processing of papers by stream chairs

Full papers or developmental papers (first versions): February 10, 2014. Papers will be subjected to peer review organized by stream chairs with at least two referees for each paper.

Deadline for 1st review: February 28, 2014 (acceptance/ acceptance with revisions following developmental feedback/ rejection)

Deadline for revised papers: April 15, 2014.

Final acceptance decision, best paper nominations and submission of best papers to the relevant associated journal (as agreed by submitter): May 1, 2014.

The review process of the best papers by partner journals remains under the complete supervision of the respective journals’ chief-editors and is independent from the conference dates.
